Why Would a Good God Allow Suffering?
Few questions challenge belief in God as deeply as the reality of suffering. We see children suffer from terrible diseases, families torn apart by violence, people lose those they love without warning, and lives altered by betrayal, injustice, accidents, disease, and death. And so the question naturally arises: If God is good and powerful enough to prevent suffering, why does He allow it? Perhaps, more precisely, we should ask: If God is all-perfect, why does He have an imperfect creation?
