When Character Walks Behind Giftedness

Every insight should produce humility. Every opportunity should cultivate gratitude. Every gift should lead us to greater dependence on the Giver.

What Character Reveals

A gift can draw a crowd, but only character can sustain a faithful life.

Knowledge may answer difficult questions, but character determines the spirit in which those answers are given.

Power may reveal what God can do through a person, but character reveals what God has done within that person.

The Danger of Separation

This is why the greatest danger is not merely a lack of gifting, but the separation of gifting from godliness. When ability grows faster than character, influence can become a burden rather than a blessing. The world may celebrate talent, but heaven delights in faithfulness.

God is not only interested in what we accomplish for His kingdom; He is deeply concerned with who we become while serving in it.

A Deeper Prayer

Every insight should produce humility. Every opportunity should cultivate gratitude. Every gift should lead us to greater dependence on the Giver.

Perhaps the true measure of spiritual maturity is not how much we know, how powerfully we speak, or how many people listen to us. Perhaps it is how faithfully our private lives reflect the Christ we proclaim in public.

May our prayer never be merely, “Lord, increase my gift.” May it also be, “Lord, deepen my character.”

For when character and giftedness grow together, truth is not only heard—it is trusted.
